The news is dismal these days. There’s, seemingly, not a lot of good things going on right now. But that’s not true. Remember the news is meant to keep you informed about the bad things, things that may impact you or those around you. It’s up to you to continue to see the good in everyday life. Instinct may make you want to wall up and protect yourself. Don’t. The world doesn’t get through the bad stuff because everyone shuts down. It gets through it because people choose to be beacons of light. You don’t have to become an activist or give all your money away. All you have to do is keep your heart and mind open and be nice to people. Treat people with compassion. News of a shooting makes you feel sad and unsafe. But somewhere around you, someone was personally affected by that shooting. They lost someone or survived one of their own and now they are triggered.
We are all going through something. Every single day, someone is choosing to get up and go into the world instead of hiding under the covers. Treat people with that in mind. Through the smiles, laughs, grumbles, bad attitudes, big personalities, neurotic behavior, and so on, lies a person who is just trying to make it. Just like you.
Smile. You need it. And someone else needs it too.
