Keep Persevering

I have self-doubt. I have insecurity. I have fear of failure. I have nights when I show up at the arena and I’m like, ‘My back hurts, my feet hurt, my knees hurt. I don’t have it. I just want to chill.’ We all have self-doubt. You don’t deny it, but you also don’t capitulate to it. You embrace it.

Kobe Bryant

When I think about persistence and perseverance I always think of Kobe Bryant. I remember when his team had turned over and he was the only veteran left. He dropped 68 points by himself. Everyone else was impressed. While equally impressed, I was disappointed in the newbies.

I chose this quote last week. I sat at my computer hunting for good quotes on faith, perseverance, focus, comparison, and growth. I specifically searched for quotes from Kobe for perseverance and comparison. I had no idea that this week it would be a tribute.

I don’t want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant.

Kobe Bryant

I’ve been known to call him cocky and arrogant. But the truth is, I have always admired his work ethic. And he understood early what most of us take years to learn. You need to have unshakeable faith in yourself to reach your dreams.

I am glad he reached his. I’m glad he was a positive example to so many including my husband. I only wish his daughter could have experienced similar success.

When dealing with grief we can sometimes lose the lessons. His are simple. Never stop. Even when they say you should. Even when the work seems done. Even when you are tired. Just keep going until you know in your heart you have done well. And then, push a little harder.

Rest in Peace to all those who died in the helicopter crash. I wish for peace for their friends and families.
