Interview with Selena Harris FMC of Fate’s Calling

Hey folks! It’s Chante here with Selena Harris, our main lady of Fate’s Calling. Selena graciously granted us an interview so that we could get to know her better. We hope to invite other members of the Sunridge Pride series really soon. But we are lucky to have this busy lady with us today.

Selena, let’s start easy. What is your favorite color?

I have two, black and leaf green.

Leaf green. Like trees?

More like the color of a healthy pathos leaf.

What sort of people are you attracted to?

Platonically, I love people who are chill, open-minded, and fun.

Romantically, I like a man who is rooted in his sense of self. He’s not trying to fit into a mold of masculinity or society because he knows who he is and what he stands for. He’s intelligent, physically and mentally fit, kind, and has a strong back and a stronger stroke.

That is very specific. Are you referring to someone in particular?

Selena chuckles, turning an adorable shade of pink. No, I’m just describing my type.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Absolutely. Love at first sight is 100 percent physiologically and spiritually possible.

Spiritually, most souls are not new, so even if a soul has never been to Earth, they’ve been in the spiritual realm. It’s 100 percent possible to see someone you knew before or a soul you liked in another realm and fall in love. Also, lovers reincarnate together all the time.

Physiologically, neither the brain nor the body knows the difference between two minutes, two months, or two years when it comes to how someone makes you feel. You can be in love instantly, or forever turned off instantly.

The chemicals, oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine flood our poor brains whether it’s instalove or your wedding day. In fact, you’re more likely to be flooded by those chemicals the first day you meet someone than you are on your eighth anniversary. So yes, love at first sight is real.

Okay, so you believe in reincarnation, but do you believe in hell, and what do you think hell is?

Well, hell is a dual domain in human lore. First, there is the home of demons. In that instance, what humans think of as hell is actually another dimension in which the race of beings called demons live. But I don’t think it’s actually called hell, by the way. The other part of the lore is the place where bad people are tortured for their deeds. We’ll call it biblical hell. I do not believe that biblical hell exists. I mean, it could. Who knows how many dimensions there are, but I don’t think souls are tortured after death. Or at least they aren’t tortured forever. Admittedly, I wish some were, but I just don’t think eternal damnation is a thing.

How do you respond to a threat?

As swiftly as possible.

Have they ever been bullied or teased?

Bullied? No. Teased? Yes. I had long curly hair before it was popular, with no products to help with grooming. High school girls always made fun of how big it got when it was humid, or how wild it got whenever it wanted. Hair really does have a mind of its own. They also joked about the fact that I didn’t have many friends.

What are your hobbies?

Plants and flowers! I love studying plants, growing them, and cross-breeding them. I also love to read. I tried to knit, but it went horribly wrong. I won’t try that again. My friend said crochet might be easier, but I’m not ready for that just yet.

What is your favorite animal?

Dogs! If I had a house, I’d have at least three: a cute, small, bossy dog, a high-energy medium breed, and a large, floofy cuddler. My other favorite animal is the quokka. Their big-eyed, rodent-like faces are the most adorable thing in the world.

Follow up, question. What about cats, given that you are living with cat shifters?

Selena smiles. The kitties are growing on me.

What is in your fridge?

I’m essentially a squatter, so I don’t have much for myself where I am now. When I lived alone, I always kept cheddar and brie, a bottle of barbecue sauce (usually homemade), sweet tea, Rosé or Riesling, eggs, bacon, homemade simple syrup, and butter.

How about your pantry?

Coffee, a variety of herbal teas, hot sauce, crackers, bread, flour, sugar, and assorted spices.

Where is the junk food, Selena?

What? I eat junk food. I just try not to buy any as part of my groceries, so I don’t overeat. Instead, if I have a craving, I go out and buy what I want, hopefully in a small portion, and eat it.

Well, that sounds healthy. What is on your bedside table?

On it, right? Books and a lamp. Usually one fiction and one nonfiction book.

Given that response, I’m not even going to ask what’s in it.

Good, because I am not going to tell you.

Do you read self-help books?

Every now and then. Honestly, I love to learn as much as I love to read, so if it interests me, I’ll try it. I’ve recently started to check out autobiographies. We can’t learn every lesson in life on our own; sometimes it’s best to learn from others.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Buy a house on a large plot of land away from neighbors. Live with my three dogs. You know, I’m actually really afraid of how many books and plants I’d buy if I won the lottery and had a huge house to put them in. It could get unruly. I imagine I’d need supervision. My greenhouse would be as big as my house if I had that kind of cash. Which, admittedly, sounds a little nuts.

I’d also donate to child group homes.

That’s a very astute observation. Most people wouldn’t admit that they would overindulge if they had the means. Though if you added fruits and veggies, a greenhouse of that size would be more practical. What do you think is the worst thing that can be done to a person?

Having their freedom or rights stripped away. It’s a heinous crime against humanity.

What’s one thing you can’t forgive?

Predatory people thinking they are at liberty to do what they want to whomever they want.

What is your greatest regret?

Not helping my mother fight off my attackers.

Do you believe in happy endings?

No. I feel like endings are never happy because people do not like endings to begin with. If they have a great date, they want it to last forever. If they have a winning streak, they want it to last forever. I don’t believe in happy endings. In fact, I’m willing to bet that most people do not believe a happy ending exists. But I do believe that happy times can sustain a person through hard times, if they allow it.

Is there a happy ending for you?

I don’t even know if there is a happy tomorrow for me. But I can hope.

What do you think?
